Day 1 isn’t a celebration — it’s a risk
Industry data is consistent: members who don’t return for their second class within 10 days have a 70%+ probability of canceling within 90. The member-onboarding sequence is built around getting that critical second visit on the calendar before the new-signup glow wears off.
The 30-day onboarding sequence
Day 0 (signup): Welcome SMS + email, calendar slot for intro session if your studio runs one, link to the members-only portal.
Day 1: Coach-pinged welcome — your head coach gets a notification to send a one-line personal text to the new member. (Plain SMS, no template — that’s the whole point.)
Day 3: First-class follow-up SMS — “How was your first session? Got a question? Reply here, I’m reading.”
Day 7: Check-in #1. If attendance ≥ 2 classes: encouragement + community invite. If attendance ≤ 1: a softer “we want to make sure you find your rhythm” message + a calendar pick for next week.
Day 14: Goal-setting prompt — what does success look like for them in 90 days? Captured in the member record for later check-ins.
Day 21: Coach-pinged review — coach checks in personally based on attendance pattern.
Day 30: Milestone celebration + soft referral ask — “You’ve completed your first month! Anyone you’d recommend we invite next?”
What you’ll see
90-day retention on this flow typically lands in the 75–85% range — vs. industry median of around 60%. The lift compounds: members who survive the first 90 days are roughly 3x more likely to renew at 12 months.
Customization
The flow ships with generic boutique-studio language. During your 10 dedicated hours we re-voice it to match your tone — disciplined and accountability-heavy for CrossFit, warmer and community-focused for yoga, technical and progress-tracking for martial arts. The shape stays the same, the tone matches your brand.
